Gamcheon Cultural Village in Busan, South Korea

The weekend had arrived and we were looking for an activity to do, so we decided to visit the Gamcheon cultural village in Busan. It’s this little living area with all coloured houses, small streets and little cafes. This area is also called the “Santorini of Korea”. If you are wondering why, just have a look at the pictures.

Cultural village in Busan: Getting there

Finding our way to the village wasn’t so difficult. Just take the metro line 1 and get of at stop 109. From there you can already see the cultural village, but you basically just have to walk up the hill until you see a little gate. It’s about a 15 minute walk from the metro station to the entry of the village.

If you have a T-money card then this journey will cost you 1500KRW one way. This is a fixed price and it doesn’t matter how many times you have to switch metros on your way to the cultural village in Busan.

Cultural village in Busan: What to do

You can find street art, cheap and delicious food or a viewing platform that will overlook the whole village, while also being able to see the ocean and the harbour. This observation desk in open until 6pm.

There are also a lot of souvenir stores, where you can buy magnets, notebooks or whatever else you might fancy. Traditional Korean clothing can also be purchased alongside the main road.

Overall, this village is not a whole day activity, unless you would like to take a picture of every single house. It is, however, a must see and I would definitely add it to your Busan adventure. In total, we spent around 2 hours at the cultural village in Busan. While using most of that time taking pictures on the observation desk.
